First #GivingTuesdayNEPA Collective Celebrates its Success

12.12.14

Giving Tuesday 2014 Press ReleaseMembers of the first ever nonprofit Giving Tuesday collective in Lackawanna County gather to celebrate a successful day of giving. The Scranton Area Community Foundation formed this collective of nine nonprofit organizations to join the movement to create a National Day of Giving on December 2, 2014, and bring it to Lackawanna County. Together, the nine members of the collective raised over $10,000 in one day. Added to that total was an additional up to $500 per nonprofit provided as a dollar for dollar match by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, increasing the amount raised by the collective to $14,000. SAF formed the collective and provided a match because they wanted to double the generosity of the community, and help make a greater impact. In addition to the successful fundraising initiative, participants wanted to help transform the way people think about volunteerism, philanthropy, and giving during the busy holiday season.
