#PhilanthropyFriday: Spotlight on Women in Philanthropy

EMPOWERING AND TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND FAMILIES.

Women in Philanthropy began a few years ago as a small group of engaged, community-minded women at the Scranton Area Community Foundation who wanted to create meaningful, positive change in the lives of women and girls in Lackawanna County.

Today, Women in Philanthropy has grown to over 100 active supporters and dozens of community partners who are working together to create sustainable improvements in the lives of local women and their families.

Women in Philanthropy actively supports projects that focus on health and wellness initiatives, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education, small business development, and financial confidence.

To date, Women in Philanthropy has impacted the education of over 2,000 students; provided the financial backing to launch 10 local women-owned businesses; facilitated the financial education of over 120 low-to-moderate-income women; convened over 80 presenters on topics related to community health and wellness; and has formed a Dental Council of 24 health leaders who are working on a pilot project to improve access to restorative dental care.

In just a few short years, Women in Philanthropy has raised well over $1.1 million in funding to direct toward these initiatives in Lackawanna County, which are proving to transform the lives of women and families throughout the region now and for generations to come.
